Mexican coins, so traditional!

The early Mexican coins were subjected to Spanish regulations!

Mexican coins have undergone several design changes.

The early Mexican coins were of four, three, two, one, a half and fourth "real" denominations. Silver fineness was 11 moneys and 4 grains; it was not possible due to the lack of technical conditions to manufacture such big pieces, since the imprint was manually hammered.

During the last eighty seven years since the beginning of the Mexican Revolution, the coin has undergone several design changes, in the National Emblem and also in the reverse of the pieces, whose varied iconography induces collectors to keep national pieces of the Mexican coins.

From this period outstands the creation, in 1992, of a new unit for the United Mexican States Monetary System; this unit is equivalent to one thousand pesos of the previous unit, and kept the "peso" name. The adoption of this unit had the purpose of making easier the understanding and handling of amounts in domestic currency, as well as to cause a more efficient use of computer and accounting systems.
