New Mexico Colleges - World-renowned excellence

New Mexico Colleges comprises of around 27 public and 17 private institutions.

This is a large number considering its relatively small population.Among the more notable New Mexico colleges is the University of New Mexico, in Albuquerque.

Other public institutions of higher learning are New Mexico State University, in Las Cruces; New Mexico Highlands University, in Las Vegas; Western New Mexico University, in Silver City; New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, in Socorro; and Eastern New Mexico University, in Portales.

Private institutions include St. John's College and the College of Santa Fe, both in Santa Fe; and United World College-USA, in Montezuma.

New Mexico Colleges house several research institutions, including the Plant Genetic Engineering Laboratory for the study of nutrient-enriched, pest-resistant crop plants and the Apache Point Observatory, which houses one of the world's largest university-operated telescopes.

For bright careers in the local mining industry, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology was founded in 1889 by the territorial legislature of New Mexico, which has further increased the number of a class New Mexico Colleges.
